Effect

In battle

Generation IV

Storm Drain forces all single-target Water type moves to strike the Pokemon with this Ability, including those used by allies. type moves will never miss the Pokemon with this Ability. Storm Drain cannot redirect type Hidden Power, Judgment orNatural Gift.

If another Pokemon becomes the center of attention, Water type moves will be directed to it instead of the Pokemon with Storm Drain.

Generation V and VI

Along with its previous effects, Storm Drain also gives the Pokemon immunity to all Water type moves, and raises the Pokemon’s Special Attack by one stage whenever it is hit by one. This effect will not activate if the Pokemon is protected from the Water type move.

Storm Drain can now redirect type Hidden Power, Judgment andNatural Gift.

If a Pokemon with Storm Drain is holding an Absorb Bulb or Luminous Moss, Storm Drain absorbs the move so the item’s effect is not triggered.

In Triple Battles, Storm Drain cannot redirect Water type moves if the Pokemon is out of range.

Outside of battle

Storm Drain has no effect outside of battle.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon

In Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness, a Pokemon with Storm Drain draws in all enemy Water type attacks on the floor, and their damage/effect is completely neutralized. Dungeon enemies with Storm Drain can negate the Storm Drain of the player’s team member(s).
